“A Man Named Richard Cory”

When the project was introduced, my friend and fellow classmate Jan Navarro was so
excited he let out a scream of excitement. We have become good friends who enjoy the discussions of comic books and all things “nerdy”. We had to write and act in a play were that had to do with a relationship and a twist had to be introduced at the end of the story. We had our task and all members of the group, Jan, Hector, Rubie, Hanexi, and Jan started to let our creativity flow and the brainstorming began.

In the beginning, we were stuck, and we did not know what to make our play about. we started discussing different topics and looking at different options. While everyone was contributing Jan was sitting quietly in his chair when all of a sudden he could not contain his excitement anymore and told us he had the best idea for the play project. After he finished explaining we all immediately loved it, except for Hanexi who did not understand the story. Once we had our story we started to come up with clever names for our characters to make them stand out more. For example, the maid of our play’s name is Maid Scullion.

I enjoyed every minute of this project because I got to know the talents of my fellow group members. We each had characters that we felt carried a little of our personality in them so we felt that much more connected to the story. I played a character named Dee Shion, who is a personification of depression and pessimism. I got very into character and felt like I was actually in the world of the play. This experience helped me discover an untapped corner of my personality that I happened to be talented at.
